Dental crowns are single-tooth restorations that restore the look and function of your smile. At Czaplicki Family Dentistry, we use only the highest-quality crowns to protect teeth that have been damaged or weakened, or to restore individual missing teeth in combination with dental implants or bridges. Dr. Don Czaplicki offers all-porcelain crowns that mimic the appearance of adjacent natural teeth, creating a seamless smile. In some cases, we are even able to create and place customized crowns in just one appointment. To learn more about how dental crowns can restore your smile, contact our Milwaukee office today.
Dental crowns can be used for a variety of restorative and cosmetic purposes. A traditional crown fits over a natural tooth, fully covering it down to the gum line. Dr. Czaplicki may recommend this type of crown after a tooth has suffered extensive decay, or after it has been weakened from root canal therapy. This type of crown restores and protects the remaining natural tooth and preserves its health and function. Before a traditional crown can be placed, Dr. Czaplicki will create room for it by removing a thin layer of the natural tooth's structure.
A second type of crown is supported by a dental implant. A dental implant is a titanium post that has been surgically embedded in the jaw. Dental implants provide unmatched security for dental crowns and have the benefit of preserving adjacent natural teeth, which do not need to be altered.
A third type of crown is used to anchor a dental bridge. Dental bridges literally bridge the gap left by missing teeth. They are held in place by adjacent healthy teeth that have been fitted with specialized crowns. These crowns are designed with fixtures that securely hold the dental bridge in place.
Dental crowns are traditionally made in an off-site laboratory. Using our CEREC® machine, Dr. Czaplicki can often create and place crowns in our office in just a few hours. The CEREC® machine uses digital imaging of a patient's mouth to create crowns that fit exceptionally well and match beautifully with your natural teeth.
Dr. Czaplicki prefers all-porcelain crowns over all-metal or partial-metal crowns for several reasons:
Crowns are easy to clean, and can be cared for in the same way as natural teeth. With proper care, all-porcelain crowns can last for decades.
