Dentures are single-piece dental prostheses that restore function and appearance for a patient who is missing all or most of their teeth. At Czaplicki Family Dentistry, we provide partial and full dentures, which may be traditional or supported by dental implants. Dr. Don Czaplicki works closely with his denture patients to ensure their restorations fit comfortably and look completely natural. Traditional dentures restore a full upper or lower arch of a patient's smile after widespread tooth loss or extraction. This type of denture is held in place using a temporary adhesive that a patient applies each day. Traditional dentures are removed nightly so the prosthetic and the patient's gums can be thoroughly cleaned.
Dentures supported by dental implants provide an extra level of security and functionality. Dental implants are titanium posts that are surgically embedded in a patient's jawbone. Implants mimic the function of traditional tooth roots, providing support to prosthetic teeth. A few strategically placed implants can support an implant-supported denture. This type of denture is usually not removable by a patient, but can be removed by Dr. Czaplicki for cleaning, examination, or repairs.
An overdenture is a removable type of denture that fits over remaining natural teeth, or is supported by implants. Overdentures provide the improved stability of an implant-supported denture, but must be removed daily for cleaning like a traditional denture.
Dentures are created according to close evaluation and analysis by Dr. Czaplicki. Using impressions, photographs, and x-rays of a patient's mouth, Dr. Czaplicki will first create a mockup restoration. This mockup can help patients gain a better idea of what their new smile will look like, as well as check that their bite will be comfortable and feel natural. It also allows patients and the doctor to make any necessary adjustments before the final prosthesis is made.
In many cases, patients have some remaining teeth that will need to be extracted before their dentures are created. In many cases, Dr. Czaplicki can extract your teeth and place a denture the same day. Some patients may need to wear a temporary denture while their gums heal following extractions, or while newly placed dental implants become fully integrated with the jawbone.
Customized dentures provide many benefits including:
Additionally, implant-supported dentures provide unique benefits. After tooth loss, the jawbone is naturally resorbed by the body. Implants stimulate the jaw, preventing this degeneration and preserving a strong, healthy bone structure. They also offer improved support and stability over traditional dentures, allowing patients to eat and speak with greater confidence.
