Dentures

Are you missing several or all of your teeth, affecting your ability to eat and speak properly?

Dentures are prosthodontic devices that replace missing teeth along one or both dental arches.

The dentists at Czaplicki Family Dentistry, serving Milwaukee, WI, can craft custom dentures to restore your smile.

Benefits of Dentures

Improved Quality of Life

Missing teeth can impact the function of your smile, making it difficult to speak clearly or chew your favorite foods. Dentures can restore the function of your mouth once more, allowing you to eat the foods you love and speak normally again.

Improved Oral Health

Tooth loss and tooth decay can lead to significant dental health issues such as infection, bone loss, and sagging facial muscles. Extracting decayed teeth and replacing them with dentures can reduce and eliminate further infections.

Bone and Gum Tissue Support

The jawbone and surrounding tissue require stimulation from the tooth roots to stay strong and healthy. Even a single missing tooth can cause bone and tissue degeneration. Implants act as prosthodontic tooth roots, stopping this degenerative process.

Prevent Excessive Wear on Remaining Teeth

Your bite force may be unevenly distributed if you have any remaining natural teeth. This can cause uneven wear, damaging those teeth. Dentures can restore the balance to your bite, evenly distributing your bite pressure along all teeth.

Boosted Self-Confidence

Missing teeth can be embarrassing and cause you to hide your smile. Our expertly trained Milwaukee-area dentists can craft natural-looking dentures that replace your missing teeth and allow you to smile with confidence again.

What Are Dentures?

Dentures are custom-made prosthetic teeth that replace missing natural teeth. Dentures are a realistic-looking solution that restores the function of your bite, allowing you to eat and speak properly once again. At our Hales Corners, WI, practice serving the greater Milwaukee area, our dentists can craft traditional full dentures and partial dentures, as well as implant-supported dentures.

If you are only missing one tooth or a few teeth in a row, a dental bridge or implant-supported dental crown may be a better treatment option for you.

Partial vs Full

/

Partial dentures replace a few missing teeth along a dental arch. Full dentures, also known as complete dentures, are needed when you are missing all of the teeth along a dental arch. Both types of denture can be implant-supported.

A Closer Look at Partial Dentures

Partial dentures are a great solution to fill the gaps in your smile.

Implant-Supported vs Traditional Dentures

Traditional Denture

Traditional Dentures

Traditional full dentures rest along your gums and require suction or denture adhesive to stay in place. Traditional partial dentures are held in place by metal clasps that fit around your remaining teeth. Traditional dentures can restore the appearance and function of your smile; however, they can shift position while you are eating or speaking.

Implant-Supported Denture

Implant-Supported Dentures

Dental implants are titanium posts that are surgically placed into the jawbone. Once the jawbone has healed, implant-supported dentures are secured directly to the dental implants, eliminating the need for messy adhesives. This provides maximum stability with no risk of slipping.

Preventing Jawbone Atrophy

Dental implants are also the only restorative dentistry procedure that prevents jawbone atrophy. Even a single missing tooth can cause the jawbone to deteriorate, giving your face a sunken look. Implants provide stimulation to the jawbone in the same way a natural tooth root would, helping keep the bone strong and healthy.

Deciding Between Implant-Supported Dentures And Removable Traditional Dentures

At our Milwaukee practice, patients can decide between traditional dentures or implant-supported dentures. Both partial and complete dentures can be created in these forms. Wondering which to choose? Here are the advantages of each.

Traditional Dentures

Facial Support

After your dental implants have been placed, they fuse to the bone in a process known as osseointegration. This prevents bone loss and helps keep your facial structures from visibly changing and aging.

Stable Security

Because implant dentures are not removable, you will not have to worry about them shifting. They will remain stable in place for many years to come, so that you'll almost forget you even have dentures.

Easier Care

Implant-supported dentures do not require the same amount of care as removable traditional dentures. Instead of taking implant-supported dentures out each night, you can brush and floss them like you would your natural teeth.

Implant-Supported Dentures

No Grafting

In some cases, patients may not have enough bone available for dental implants. They may need bone grafting, which can add more visits and cost to their treatment. We can easily forgo this process and place traditional dentures instead.

Less Time

The osseointegration process can take several months, but many patients may not want to wait that long for their new smile. It usually takes less time to create traditional dentures.

Lower Cost

Generally, traditional full or partial dentures are more cost-effective than implant-supported dentures. No matter which option you choose, though, it may help to know that we offer dental financing.

Implants Provide Maximum Stability for Your Dentures

Implant-supported dentures are secured directly to your jaw for maximum security. Chew, speak, and smile in confidence – without the need for messy adhesives.

I Need Dentures, But I Still Have Some Teeth What Happens Next?

partial dentures

Many patients considering dentures do not have total tooth loss. For those who need smile restoration in certain sections of their mouth, partial dentures can work well without impacting their healthy natural teeth.

However, if you have deeply decayed or damaged teeth, then you may need an extra step in your treatment. Dr. Don Czaplicki can expertly extract damaged teeth, so that you can soon have a healthy smile once again.

He offers effective, trustworthy sedation, allowing you to remain calm and comfortable during the procedure. In the event that you have a more complicated extraction needed, he can refer you to a reliable specialist.

Timeline for Dentures

Your dentist will ensure you are completely comfortable with the appearance and fit of your new dentures.
Your dentist will ensure you are completely comfortable with the appearance and fit of your new dentures.
At your initial consultation, your dentist will examine your mouth and discuss your oral health history to determine if dentures are the right course of treatment for you. Because each patient's dental needs are unique, your timeline may vary. If you need extractions, your gums must be fully healed before treatment can proceed. If you choose dental implants, the implants must be given time to fuse to your jawbone. This process is called osseointegration and can take three to six months. Implant-supported dentures may also require preparatory bone grafting if your jaw lacks sufficient density to support the implants.
Once your gums and jaw have healed, or if you do not require preparatory treatment, our Milwaukee-area dentists will take digital impressions. These eliminate the need for messy putty impressions of your mouth and gums. The impressions will be sent to our lab, where they will begin crafting your custom dentures.
Full dentures may require wax rims to ensure a proper fit. Our dentists want to ensure that you achieve maximum fit, function, and comfort to get the most out of your dentures. You will also choose tooth color at this appointment. This step allows your dentist to make any changes before your dentures are fully processed.
Once your dentures are delivered to our Milwaukee-area practice, you will have an appointment to make adjustments. Your dentist will ensure you are completely comfortable in your new dentures. If you receive implant-supported dentures, your dentist will secure the dentures to your implants. There is no need to remove implant-supported dentures except for routine cleanings with your dentist.
As you wear your new dentures, it is normal to have one to three appointments to make further adjustments and achieve the right fit. If you experience any discomfort with your new dentures, please let your dentist know so he or she can address this issue as soon as possible. At Czaplicki Family Dentistry, we want you to be comfortable and confident with your new smile!
